Code Base Alpha is a Visual Basic add-in for storing and retrieving code samples. You can store anywhere from one line of code to an entire zipped up project. Code samples can be separated into different categories. As you store new code you can assign it a tile, description, VB version, Windows version, and as many keywords as you like. You can have the program scan new code entries and automatically create a keyword list based on procedure names, API calls, and constant declarations.
To retrieve code you can look through the different categories or use the search utility to find code based on 7 different search criteria. If you don't find what you're looking for you can search several popular VB related web sites right from Code Base Alpha.
Code Base Alpha is fully integrated into the VB IDE. Code can be pasted into the current code pane at the cursor position or as a new procedure. You can have Code Base Alpha add a new form, module, or class module to your project and then have the code put into that new file. You can also have the code copied to the Windows Clipboard or output to a new file that is not a part of your project.
Code Base Alpha also lists all of the components in your project with information about lines of code and lines of declarations. From this Project tab you can quickly navigate to any component or procedure in your project.
Code Base Alpha is sold as shareware. This is a 30 day trial version and has limited capabilities form adding new code and new categories. At the end of the 30 day trial period if you decide you do not want to purchase the program you should remove it from your computer. If you do decide to purchase the program you will also get a copy of Visual Code Scan 6 along with your order. Visual Code Scan 6 allows you to scan VB6 projects for dead code, unused and undeclared variables, and misspelled captions and sting literals.
